MAU Vegas 2019: Pushing Boundaries in Tech with Bold Visuals

Immersive Design Experience for the World's Leading Mobile Apps Event

Mobile Apps Unlocked or MAU Vegas is the world’s leading mobile apps event. It attracts the biggest brands from Silicon Valley including Spotify, Tinder, Lyft, Bumble, and MailChimp to name a few. Houndstooth, led by designer Shreya Gulati, was given the mammoth task of conceptualizing, designing, and executing the entire event’s visual appearance and digital presence for the year 2019. As the event tries to push boundaries in the tech space, they designed a system that could represent that through visuals and imbibe the audience into the experience holistically.

The collaterals for MAU Vegas 2019 were built using bold grotesque typography and neon colors, inspired by the dynamic and ever-evolving mobile tech industry. The illustrations drew inspiration from Dan Flavin, the American artist known for his minimal light installations. This unique combination of typography and illustrations created a visual language that captured the essence of the event.

What sets the design of MAU Vegas 2019 apart is its ability to represent the event's ambition and grandeur. The event attracts the biggest names in the industry, and the design had to reflect that. By using the designs everywhere, from signage and brochures to registration counters and escalators, the audience was completely immersed in the brand. The design team, including Shreya Gulati and Shyamlee Jagtap, ensured that every touchpoint with the audience reflected the event's essence of grandiose and magnanimity.

The design process involved conceptualizing on paper and then digitally creating the designs using Adobe Illustrator and Sketch. Houndstooth worked tirelessly to provide all design collaterals in the required dimensions, which were then printed or projected at the venue, MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The scalability of the design was a significant challenge, as it had to be adaptable to various materials and digital screens, including mobile screens, backlit screens, and LED panels.

The final result of MAU Vegas 2019's design was highly appreciated for its tangibility and uniqueness. The designs not only created a visually stunning experience but also provided a platform for the audience to interact with the brand. The event's success and the recognition it received, including the Iron A' Design Award in Advertising, Marketing, and Communication Design, are a testament to the innovative and practical nature of the design.

MAU Vegas 2019 showcased the power of design in creating an immersive experience for an event that pushes boundaries in the tech space.
